Warrior/Paragon- Was I looney?
Having purchased the first game the day it was released, and playing it until I had finished it with 4 different characters, I admit I forgot I even had this game. Recently WoW grew stale for the very same reason, so I went out and bought the two GW expansions.
I must say I am once again enjoying the game, or at least the new campaigns that have expanded the playability. While I have ventured back to Lions Gate so my 20's could visit the new lands, I have actually spent more time playing my, not so new since they are all 20 now too, characters using the 4 new classes.
I seem to be playing my warrior/paragon the most. My brilliant idea at the time, which probably isn't so brilliant, was to max out the Warrior Str for armor penetration. I then put the rest of the skills in Spear Mastery, and I keep switching between Motivation and Command for the last few pts. In any event, I am not even sure if the Str armor penetration is even a factor, since technically spear is a ranged attack, not a melee like sword/axe/hammer.
I don't suspose anyone knows if the Str penetration works with non melee. I have tried to test average spear damage on the training dummies in the PVP temple, both with, and without max'd Str. The damage seems pretty close to each other both ways.
I guess at worst, I have a watered down Paragon that lacks the leadership skill, but has better armor than a regular Paragon. That and the Elite Warrior Sunspear armor looks so much better than the Elite Paragon Sunspear armor. At least in my opinion.

Actually, no, Paragons also have 80 AL, but they do lack the +20 vs Physical.
A common misconception about Strength is that it adds its AP to every attack. This is wrong; it only adds it to attack skills.

With 16 strength Mighty Throw is noticeably stronger as I found out when I forgot to re-equip my +4 Strength Helmet and noticed I wasn't doing the usual amount of damage with my skills. If you want to use the command and movtivation skills I would recommend using the paragon, its better to put the rest of the points in to tactics and use something like 'watch your self' when your a W/P.

In my honest opinion Leadership is a far more desireable Primary attribute than strength. if you are going to play as a combination of warrior and paragon i would seriously consider the alternative combination of Paragon/Warrior. True the warrior has slightly superior armour 80 base + xx (usually 20 vs physical depending on insignia) but the paragon can boost his armour by using the centurion insignia. this will give you +10 armour whilst effected by a shout, chant or echo. considering this will usually always be the case, especially as a motivation paragon running mending refrain you will have a base armour of 90 vs all. couple this to the fact that paragons can wield a sheild as well + 16 AL and 106 armour. Paragon/ warriors use watch yourself as often if not more so than warriors do generating both additional armour and energy through the leadership attribute. For a paragon, warrior is a serious candidate for a secondary proffession. For a Warrior, there are better options imo than paragon as secondary.

Being a warrior primary isn't about being able to use strength, it's about being able to run 16 axe/sword/hammer.

Deleted my 20 Ele/Necro from Prophecies, and tried the Paragon/Warrior build. Sadly I have to agree that already at 10, it seems to function better with blues at PvE than my 20 W/P with Elite Armor and gold/green items. I only say sadly, because I have wasted so much time and gold on the W/P character.
Oh well, in a few lvl's at least I can transfer Items over to the new toon. Shame on the expensive armor though.

Warriors are never useless. Unless they are played incorrectly, that is.
I can see some uses for a W/P, with "Go for the Eyes!" for instance. Highly spammable and even with only leftover points in Command, it gives a +35% chance to critical.

Not to mention in a more utilitarian point of view you can throw out "Incoming!" for an added spike prevention. Naturally, you lose your Elite slot for it, but in the end, it's quite good for PvE.

Well if you have strength so high you may as well have sentinel's armor which is 100AL vs. all w/o the shield.
